Set up in mid-2024, the Save Sand by MS plant operates daily at the Floreffe site, producing several hundred tonnes of high-quality aggregates.
INTRODUCTION
Hublet, a Belgian company specialising in the recycling of construction, demolition and road waste, is also a key player in sustainable development and recycling in Wallonia.
With its two treatment sites in Floreffe and Hour, Hublet continually invests in staff training and research and development to remain at the forefront of the sector.
In 2023, Hublet has set out on an ambitious project: to install a material recovery unit at its Floreffe site.
This initiative aims to produce high-quality recycled materials on site, thereby consolidating their commitment to the circular economy.
THE GOALS OF THE SAVE SAND BY MS PROJECT
The Save Sand by MS plant at the Floreffe site was designed to meet several strategic goals:
- Material recycling: The unit must be capable of processing more than 200,000 tonnes/year of materials previously considered to be unusable.
- Production of high-quality sand: The goal is to produce reconstituted sand online, adapted to the needs of new construction projects.
- Production of various aggregates: 4-8 mm, 8-16 mm, 16-20 mm and > 20 mn
- Intensive operation: The facility is designed to operate at a maximum feed rate of 180 t/h, 10 hours a day, 220 days a year, ensuring continuous production.
INSTALLATION DETAILS
The Save Sand by MS installation stands out for its technical innovations:
- Triforce: This 3-in-1 equipment performs settling, material attrition, initial screening to 20 mm, and removal of floating materials. It is a compact solution, designed and manufactured by MS.
- Sand recovery: Possibility of recomposing customised sand online (adjustable fineness module). Possibility of reincorporating surplus fine sand during campaigns to recover coarser sand.
- Water treatment plant: In addition to recycling process water in a closed circuit, our water treatment plant automatically controls and adjusts the flocculation and coagulation of elements.
- Filter press: A plug-and-play solution that is easily transportable, our filter presses can be adapted to different types of sludge, dehydrating them into cakes for easy removal.
RESULTS AND IMPACT
The Save Sand by MS plant, which will be commissioned in mid-2024, operates daily at the Floreffe site, producing several hundred tonnes of high-quality aggregates every day. These ready-to-use materials are intended for resale and construction, in various grain sizes.
Project manager Alexandre Nonet highlights the speed and efficiency of the project:
‘It took us less than a year to study the project and complete it. We signed the contract in early July 2023 and the plant started operating in early June 2024. […] This success is thanks to all the departments at Nonet and Hublet, but also to MS, our supplier, who did their utmost to get us where we are today!’
